Happy Neroz! | عيد سعيد نوروز

Norruzor Neroz is the Persian New Year’s Day and marks the day of the Spring equinox on the 21st March in the Gregorian calendar.

It is the largest holiday of Persian nationalism, celebrated in Iran and in neighbouring counties such as Afghanistan and Turkey and is celebrated by Kurds everywhere.

In Northern Iraq especially, the roots of Nowruz are partly attributed to mystical religious traditions, but the celebration of this feast continues even after the Islamic conquests of Persia and continues to this day.

And when I went to Vial, on Chios, I saw people celebrating there despite their pain and grief and then I realised that life was still going on.

A report by Mohammed Sara, Iraq.
